Research Based Programs

Master of Applied Science (MASc)

These two-year programs provide students with an opportunity to work under the mentorship of a leading engineering researcher to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are in high demand in today’s economy.

Doctoral (PhD)

The highest degree sought after by leading practitioners, researchers, and educators. The requirements for completion are four term courses beyond the master’s degree, a comprehensive examination and a successfully defended thesis.

Professional/Coursework Programs

Master of Engineering (MEng)

The Master of Engineering (MEng) is a one-year, coursework-based program that is designed for engineering graduates who want to enhance their technical and professional skills to have a competitive edge in today’s job market.

Graduate Diploma (GDip)

A Graduate Diploma may be a stand-alone credential, or it may be part of a laddered set of programs leading to a master's degree. Admission to a Queen's GDip program requires an undergraduate degree as a prerequisite.

Engineering and Applied Physics

Queen’s University collaborative graduate programs in engineering and applied physics. Research is centred around themes that use basic science and physics to improve quality of life and to solve current or future problems facing people both in Canada and worldwide. This research spans areas of photonics, quantum information technology, medical physics, non-destructive evaluation, materials physics, electronic device physics and plasma physics.

MASc, PhD

Geological Engineering

Continue your research at one of North America's premier Earth Science Departments. Queen's is one of Canada's oldest and highest-ranked universities where you can work with world-renowned scientists and engineers. Our graduate programs offer extensive fieldwork programs on six continents, generous student stipends, world-class research facilities, and in many cases, industry collaboration.

MASc, PhD

Mathematics and Engineering

Many areas of engineering benefit greatly from their interaction with Mathematics and/or Statistics! Graduate students in Mathematics and Engineering come from a variety of backgrounds: mathematics; applied mathematics; electrical engineering; mechanical engineering.

MASc, PhD

Mechanical and Materials Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering provides diverse opportunities for graduate studies in fundamental and applied research in all areas of mechanical engineering. Offering both research and professional-based graduate programs, we prepare our graduate students to achieve their full academic and research potential.

MEng, MASc, PhD

Mining Engineering

Our students and researchers are critical in moving the mining industry forward to meet the global economy and rapidly evolving technology. Working closely with industry partners, our faculty and students work to improve the efficiency, sustainability, safety, and cost of mining operations.
Our graduate programs are designed to produce engineers and specialists qualified to assess, design, and operate both underground and open-pit mines; to design and operate complex processing plants; and evaluate and maintain the mechanical equipment used in mining or processing facilities. Our graduate programs focus on the broader field of excavation and processing of ore to obtain the mineral products our society relies on.
